13 Year Old Mandi Tells Her Story
February 8, 2000
Hi, my name is Mandi and I've been a diabetic since I was 2 and I'm 13 now. It was hard at first, taking shots and not eating what I want and when I want but this past April I went to Gander to go on Humalog insulin. I thought it was a miracle because I could eat what I wanted. But there was a down side to it, I couldn't sleep in and I had to take an extra needle. The reason I went on Humalog was because I had heard about the insulin pump and it really interested me so we set up an appointment at the hospital to get the pump I had to stay in the hospital over night, because the doctors wanted my blood sugars. While I was in the hospital another girl withdiabetes was on the pump, she had had the pump for a year, she came in to see me a lot and she showed me a lot of tricks that can help with the pump. I'm on the pump now and I love it because it gives you more freedom and you can sleep in!!! And you can eat what you want to!!! But remember don't eat all fatty foods or you'll get fat. If I had to go back on shots I don't know what I would do!!!!
Well if you have any questions or you just want to talk e-mail me.
Thanks,
Mandi
